St Paul and magic carpets

Today was a great day. Hot, sunny, and full of all the sorts of things that make me happy. Like:

Sunshine. It is warm and sunny here. Antalya is a real breadbasket. They grow grapes, oranges, lemons, pomegranate, cucumbers, and olives. There are greenhouses everywhere outside the city...but the glass is all painted yellow ( yellow green houses??) to keep the sun out....seems odd I know...

Breakfast. Turkish breakfast makes me happy because it is basically a GREEK SALAD.Tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and feta cheeze...only they also serve hardboiled eggs and yummy buns.

Flowers. Everywhere in this old part of town where we are staying there are vines full of amazing purple flowers spanning across the skinny streets, forming fragrant canopy. It is all so quaint. The streets are cobbled like in Istanbul there are cats everywhere! What is REALLY funny, is we went for a walk outside of the old city (which is where the tourists hang out), and into the normal part of town where the Turkish people shop, and there we passed several pet stores within a few blocks...ALL OF THEM SELLING KITTENS! My God in heaven there are more stray cats here than rats in Victoria...and they still sell them.

Ruins. There are ruins everywhere here. So much history it takes your breath away. We saw Roman baths so amazingly preserved. We walked through the most well preserved amphitheaters in all of asia minor...incredible. We saw an aqueduct that showed so clearly the incredible sophistication of the ancient Romans. We walked where St. Paul walked.

Colour. There is so much colour here. I am in colour heaven. The fabrics, the carpets, the upholstery...everything is so beautiful.

People. Today I interacted with, and met some very nice people. One couple are from India, where we are headed next, and we may look them up, as they are from a place we are going to. Another lady stying here is from Edmonton...we talked politics.

Shopping. Today I bought a carpet. A handmade, Turkish rug...and this experience is worth its very own post...so more on that tomorrow.

The nighttime call too prayers has just ended, so I know it is time for bed. More tomorrow, then we are off to India via Bahrain.
