Day seven

The sun was shining when I awoke this morning after an 11 hour sleep. Apparently climbing mountains and canyons pooped me out!

Nate and I headed out on a hike this morning through one of the valleys here. It was wso beautiful....the most amazing rock formations are everywhere. I imagined Joel picking one of these ancient caves to set up house in. I could see the Turkish rugs thrown on the stone floor, and his own personal frescos on the wall. As we wal;ked further and further into the canyon, the trail got smaller and smaller, and soon were were bending over as the path lead into a cave. Coming out the other side we were clearly entering someones home. There was a small, well maintained vinyard, and a tidy porch built at the door of the cave. It is just so bizarre here! Magical really. I was nopt kidding when I said Hobbits belong here. This land indeed would inspire any fantasy writer, and I hope one day I can convince Joel to come here. The sights would inspire his writing for years!

This afternoon, after a lovely lunch of organic nuts and dried fruit (and beer), Nate and I rented a scooter and headed out to see the neighbouring villages and canyons. What a hoot! I do not remember driving a scooter to be so hard - as I did it alot in Thailand - but OMG we almost killed ourselves. At one turn on hte highway, we did not navigate well, and ended up crossing the lanes into oncoming traffic, and landed in the ditch! We both stayed cool, and walked over to the cliff to look at the amazing view of the canyon. Then I started to laugh so hard I almiost peed myself, for I realized that we were both terrified to get back on the scooter, and were pretending to look at the view just to stall the inevitable.

Eventually we learned to work the scooter better, and enjoyed several hours of discovering trails and some of the most amazing rock formations I have ever seen. The my body began to hurt...I forgot to take my medicine this morning, and all of a sudden, I had so much pain in all my jopints I had trouble getting off the scooter...So, needless to say, Nate is using up the remaining hour on the scooter, and I am sitting at the computer typing becuasde my fingers are about the only part of my body that is not hurting right now. Note to self...DON'T FORGET TO TAKE YOUR MEDICINE!!

I must go now to lay in the sun for awhile and will away my pain...and pray my son does not crash and burn on his scooter! More later...

  1. sounds like you are having a wonderful adventure! I think Joel would suit living in a cave as a hermit. I would visit him often, and bring him soap and shampoo!
I can't wait to hear more! Post pictures once you have internet that is more reliable!
    Safe travels!! xoxo
